Title: The Exorcist Files: True Stories About the Reality of Evil and How to Defeat It Author: Father Carlos Martins Genre: Non-fiction Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This book gave me a nightmare only once so I lived to write a review. Kidding aside, although it's true I had a nightmare while in the process of reading this book, I’m giving it a five-star review.
The author of this book, Father Carlos Martins is also the host of the podcast of the same title, The Exorcist Files, with Ryan Bethea. And just like the podcast, this book is unpretentious and succinct. It was meticulously written with enough discretion and great reverence for the readers, people involved, and the Catholic Church.
Although I seriously had a nightmare in the middle of my quest to finish this book, do not misconstrue the message that this book is exclusively under the horror genre. Fr. Carlos Martins’s aim in writing this book is clearly to educate everyone, regardless of religions and beliefs, of the grave seriousness in dealing with stuff that most of us have little to no knowledge about; the reality of the existence of God and humanity’s most evil enemy—the devil himself; and the unparalleled power of God our Father, with His host of angels and saints, and our Savior Jesus Christ our Lord.
This book provides its reader ample information, sage advice, and admonition. Fr. Carlos Martins generously shares his knowledge as an exorcist, the careful deliberation before reaching a decision if exorcism is truly warranted, how an exorcism is scrupulously done, and most importantly how to steer clear of everything not of God’s, in the first place, so as not to end up face to face with an exorcist who will battle a demon or legions of them inside one’s body.
I finished this book feeling more wary of the enemies lurking about, ready to pounce at any given moment, but also feeling safe in the knowledge that faith in God is enough to keep them at bay.
